Gender: M Age: 67

History: Car accident about 1 year prior. Sharp and achy pain in low back with left leg pain and weakness. Aggravated by sitting, standing, walking and activities of daily life. A few months prior to consult was hospitalized with severe pain. Had 2 cortisone injections and was on multiple prescription medications. Could only sit for 10 minutes before having to lie down; using a walker for support.

Exam Findings: Extreme tenderness over whole lower back region. Pain on motion to the left. Weak left foot and reduced left reflex. MRI indicated large left L5-S1 disc herniation with severe left stenosis.

Treatment: 13 treatments including Antalgic-Trak spinal decompression, laser therapy, Impulse IQ micromanipulation and ice.

Results: After 5 visits could sit for about 1½ hour without having to lie down. After 11 visits, severe back pain gone, did not need walker, started to reduce pain medication. More than 1 month follow-up, patient feels residual mild pain (not in low back) but has stopped all pain medication and is functioning relatively normally. Further follow-up to involve strengthening exercises.

Gender: F Age: 49

History: Low back pain for approximately 14 years on/off. Has had multiple treatments including chiropractic, massage therapy and physiotherapy. Although helpful, these treatments did not eliminate the pain.

Exam findings: General stiffness of low back with pain at the L4-L5-S1 region. X-rays showed moderate disc degeneration (arthritis) at L4-L5. Computerized analysis showed a 73% dysfunction of low back muscles.

Treatment: 19 treatments including Antalgic-Trak spinal decompression, chiropractic adjustments and/or Impulse IQ micromanipulation.

Results: Stopped treatment after 17 visits as pain had subsided. Has had 2 follow-up treatments within the next 6 months for maintenance. Has had no recurrence of pain in the last 8 months.

Gender:
M    Age: 44

History: 2 accidents landing on buttock 27 and 10 years prior with no major consequences.  Occasional chiropractic care helped with minor back pain.  Presenting complaint was 2 years of low back pain with 3 months of increased pain not responding as well to chiropractic.  Pain is sharp with numbness, tingling and weakness in both legs.  Could not walk as long as usual.

Exam Findings: Prior MRI showed L4,5 stenosis with disc protrusion and L5,S1 protrusion and degeneration.  Examination showed slight pain in different ranges of motion, tenderness over the right lower back and pelvis.  Severe pain in the right 4th toe.

Treatment: 15 treatments including Antalgic-Trak spinal decompression and spinal manipulation.

Results: After 10 visits, pain levels went from 9/10 to 3/10.  Disability scores dropped from 34% (moderate) to 8% (none).   Patient had 2 1/2 years of no pain and returned with low back pain of 3 weeks duration.  After 3 visits in a period of 1 month, patient is feeling better again.

Gender:
F   Age: 52

History: Many years of low back pain from car accident when 13 years old.  Occasional flare-ups, last 1 week prior.  Burning, aching pain in low back with numbness and tingling in right calf getting worse.  Aggravated by sitting, standing, bending, sneezing and coughing.  Prescription medication no help.  The patient was very skeptical about treatment as nothing has worked well in the past.

Exam Findings: Prior MRI and new x-rays showed moderately advanced L4,5 and L5,S1 degeneration with a mild spondylolisthesis (vertebral slippage) of L4.  Examination showed severe pain in bending forward and positive orthopedic tests for disc.

Treatment: 14 treatments over 1 1/2 months of Antalgic-Trak spinal decompression.

Results: After 10 visits, pain levels went from 8/10 to 4/10.  Disability scores dropped from 76% (complete) to 40% (moderate).   After the 14th visit, patient was pain free.  Patient had 3 years of no pain and returned with low back pain of 2 weeks duration.  After 1 visit with decompression and another 3 chiropractic treatments in a period of 2 weeks, patient is pain free again.
